Surging crowds and sharpening barbs preceded the climax of the New Hampshire primary campaign, as Democrat Barack Obama sought to hand Hillary Rodham Clinton her second defeat while Republican Mitt Romney worked furiously to avoid one himself.
Trying to revive her campaign, Clinton declared, "Whatever happens tomorrow, we're going on."
Clinton and Romney suffered defeats in last week's Iowa caucuses and are struggling to avoid a second major loss Tuesday. John McCain is surging on the Republican side.
