Article: Croatian lawmakers to vote on new Cabinet

Prime Minister-designate Ivo Sanader sought parliament's endorsement Saturday of his new Cabinet, dominated by his conservative party but also including two smaller groups and an ethnic Serb as deputy.

Sanader _ who has led a pro-Western government for the past four years _ was given mandate to form a new Cabinet after his Croatian Democratic Union won the most votes in the Nov. 25 parliamentary elections.

The party, however, failed to win outright and was forced into long, tough postelection bargaining to gain a majority in parliament.

Now, Sanader's coalition has 83 deputies in the 153-seat legislature; 77 votes are needed to back his Cabinet.
