James Chamanga scored within two minutes of the opening kickoff, and Jacob Mulenga and Felix Katongo added second-half goals Tuesday to lead Zambia past Sudan 3-0 in the first round of the African Cup of Nations.
Chamanga converted a pass from Mulenga to put Zambia in front early. Mulenga's header increased Zambia's lead in the 50th and Katongo added a goal in the 59th off a rebound after Sudan goalkeeper Elmuiz Abdalla had spilled Rainford Kalaba's effort.
Defending champion Egypt beat Cameroon 4-2 in an earlier Group C match.
Katongo missed a chance to extend Zambia's lead in the 10th minute when his close-range shot off a pass from Chamanga's pass went wide.
