The French trader accused by the Societe Generale bank of the biggest trading fraud by a single person was expected to appear Monday before a judge who will weigh whether to press preliminary charges.

Defense lawyer Christian Charriere-Bournazel said preliminary charges against Jerome Kerviel were likely. He also said he was "convinced" that the 31-year-old trader, who was still in police custody Monday morning, would be released while the judicial probe continues into Societe Generale's stunning losses.
