Article: Deposed Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to return Thursday: foreign minister

Deposed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra will be greeted at the airport by at least one senior official in Thailand's new government and other "people who love him" when he returns home Thursday from 17 months in exile, an official said Wednesday.

Thaksin's Web site and his lawyers announced Tuesday that the former prime minister, who was ousted in a September 2006 coup, would return to Thailand on Thursday to fight corruption charges.

Supamas Isarapakdi, an aide to new Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej, told The Associated Press that "as of this moment it is confirmed" that Thaksin would return on Thursday.
