More than 100 university professors have urged voters to reject the conservative Popular Party in Spain's general election March 9, citing immigration proposals they call xenophobic.
The Popular Party's plans for immigrants to sign a contract pledging to obey the law and respect Spanish customs, and claims that link immigration to delinquency, "represent a new aggression against people who have not received welcoming treatment and who have had to put up with inferior rights in many ways," said the statement, which was published in national newspapers Thursday.
