As the euro continues its climb, it is drawing two very different reactions: alarm from the French and equanimity from the Germans.

Germany's manufacturing giants are keeping one eye on the record high euro and the other on the future, devising new strategies to keeping the effects of the stronger currency from hurting the bottom line.

But in France, the concern is more palpable with politicians calling for an intervention by the European Central Bank to put the brakes on the euro's growth. This week, French budget minister Eric Woerth said that the "very high" euro was "a handicap for our exports."
