Article: N. Ireland leader Ian Paisley says he `smashed' Sinn Fein, plans to write autobiography

Northern Ireland leader Ian Paisley, the Protestant firebrand who is retiring in May, said in an interview broadcast Sunday that he plans to write his autobiography _ and tell the story of how he "smashed" his Catholic partners in government.

The 81-year-old preacher offered a wide-ranging defense of his four-decade political career in an interview with British Broadcasting Corp. television. It was his first since announcing last week he was stepping down as leader of Northern Ireland's power-sharing administration and the Democratic Unionists, the party he founded 37 years ago to block Catholic moves toward a united Ireland.
