With Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton trailing in the chase for delegates for the Democratic presidential nomination, her attention has turned to this U.S. Caribbean territory, which has 55 delegates at stake in an upcoming primary.
Taking time from discussing the Iraq war, the foundering economy and other issues, the Clinton campaign promised Monday to help resolve Puerto Rico's complex relationship with Washington. Islanders are almost evenly divided on the question of Puerto Rico's status, choosing in nonbinding referendums to remain a U.S. commonwealth and narrowly rejecting statehood.
