Donnie Murphy hit a grand slam in the eighth inning Sunday and the Oakland Athletics defeated the Hanshin Tigers 10-2 in their final exhibition game in Japan before opening the regular season here against the Boston Red Sox.
The A's take on the Red Sox at Tokyo Dome in Major League Baseball's regular-season opener on March 25, the earliest start in MLB history, and again on March 26.
Murphy, who will take over from Marco Scutaro as the A's backup infielder, connected off Hanshin reliever Jeff Williams with a blast into the right field stands that made it 10-2 for the A's.
