Article: European stocks rally, with financials stronger

LONDON _ European stocks rallied Tuesday, led by financials including British mortgage lender HBOS on hopes from some that the worst of the credit crunch may be passed.

Coming off a four-day Easter weekend, the pan-European Dow Jones Stoxx 600 ended 3.3 percent higher to finish at 306.59.

The gains came after a big advance in U.S. stocks on Monday, on the back of surprisingly strong existing-home sales and J.P. Morgan Chase's increased offer for Bear Stearns, as well as a rally across most of Asia overnight. U.S. stocks were slightly higher at the close of European trade on Tuesday.
