Article: Former Kosovo prime minister, acquitted of war crimes charges, returns home

Kosovo's former prime minister returned home to a hero's welcome Friday after a U.N. court acquitted him in the murder and torture of Serbs.

Landing at Pristina's airport, Ramush Haradinaj was greeted by thousands of ethnic Albanians, many of them dressed in national costumes, others dancing and playing traditional instruments.

"The court ruling proves that I am innocent and that our war was untainted," Haradinaj told The Associated Press moments after landing.

He returned home as the leader of an opposition party in the newly declared independent Kosovo. His party slid from power in his absence.
