Article: Israel closes off West Bank, Gaza Strip for weeklong holiday after infiltration attempt

Israel closed off the West Bank and Gaza on Friday for the weeklong Jewish Passover holiday a day after Gaza militants attacked a vital crossing, raising the possibility of a large-scale Israeli offensive within weeks.

Also Friday, Israel announced it was constructing 100 homes in a West Bank settlement it hopes to hold onto in a peace agreement with the Palestinians. In violence, Israeli troops killed a senior Palestinian militant in the West Bank city of Nablus. The Israeli raid suggested an attempt to strengthen a Palestinian security presence in the city was unraveling.
