The Dalai Lama arrived in London on Tuesday at the start of an 11-day trip that includes a meeting with Prime Minister Gordon Brown, and which is likely to draw criticism both from China and from pro-Tibet campaigners.

Tibet's exiled spiritual leader received an honorary degree from London Metropolitan University at the start of a visit that includes a trip to Parliament and a series of speeches and public meetings. The trip is part of a lengthy international tour to rally support for greater autonomy for Tibet.

Pro-Tibet groups had called for Brown to meet the Dalai Lama at the prime minister's official 10 Downing St. residence, as his predecessor Tony Blair did in 1999. ...
