Barack Obama headed into Puerto Rico's primary on Sunday with the Democratic nomination well within reach while Hillary Rodham Clinton, newly defiant against her own party leaders, pressed for a victory that was unlikely to salvage her faltering White House bid.

The race in the island territory _ once a political asterisk in presidential contests _ follows a Saturday ruling by a Democratic National Committee panel giving Michigan and Florida convention delegates a half vote.
