Article: Argentine transport strike provokes new food shortages

Argentina once again faced food shortages Friday due to highway blockages by protesting workers.

Grain transporters _ angry at a lack of work because of a three-month standoff between the national government and thousands of farmers _ have set up roadblocks that have prevented others from getting their products to market.

Soy, wheat and corn farmers have suspended exports three times since March 11, leaving grain exporters without cargo to haul. Even though the suspension on grain exports was officially lifted Monday by farm groups, the market has had trouble getting back on track, and little grain is being shipped from Argentina's ports.
