Duke of Marmalade won the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot by a length Saturday after edging out Papal Bull on the finish line.

Duke of Marmalade, the 6-4 on favorite, ridden by Johnny Murtagh and trained by Aidan O'Brien, was lying in fifth place when he made his move down the home straight, kicking clear of the pacemaker Red Rock Canyon.

Papal Bull, a 14-1 outsider ridden by Oliver Peslier, gave chase as the two moved clear of the pack, hitting the front only for Duke of Marmalade to surge past just meters before the line.
