A tabloid reporter covering the second police raid on suspected criminal hide-outs near Manila in as many days was killed alongside an officer in a hail of gunfire Wednesday, officials said.
Police arrested at least five suspected gang members after they allegedly opened fire as officers approached a house in Taytay township, east of Manila, said Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad.
The gunfight came a day after police fatally shot seven suspected robbers in the same province of Rizal as part of a stepped-up anti-crime campaign.
