Article: Stocks edge higher on mixed signs about economy

Stocks are ending modestly higher as mixed reports on the economy and earnings keep the market's rally in check.

The small gains in stocks Monday follow a two-week surge that lifted major indexes 11 percent. Analysts say some slowdown in the market's climb has been due.

Good news about surging home sales last month was offset partly by weak earnings from RadioShack, Aetna and Corning.

The Dow Jones industrial average is up 15 at 9,109. The Standard & Poor's 500 index is up 3 at 982. The Nasdaq is up 2 at 1,968.

Two stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock Exchange. Volume came to 1 billion shares.
