The Army Corps of Engineers says hurried repairs at the Howard Hanson Dam near Seattle have lessened the chances the Green River will flood this winter.
Corps spokeswoman Patricia Graesser (GRAY'-sir) in Seattle would not say by how much the odds were improved, saying details would come at a midday news conference Thursday.
Previously, the corps has said there was a 1-in-4 chance it might have to release enough water from the dam's weakened reservoir to cause flooding in the heavily developed Green River Valley downstream.
The corps spent nearly $9 million this summer pumping grout into land next to the dam to strengthen it.
