Article: US lawyer working on Guantanamo closing resigns

The White House's top lawyer is resigning after coming under criticism for his handling of President Barack Obama's promise to close the Guantanamo Bay military prison by January.

White House counsel Greg Craig became the highest ranking official to resign in Obama's 10-month presidency. The announcement was made as Obama began a weeklong tour of Asia.

Craig's future had been in doubt as it became clear that the administration was unlikely to meet its deadline for closing detention center by Jan. 22.
