"Morphine Helped Cause Death of Delaware Teen," read the Columbus Dispatch headline. According to the coroner's report, a mixture of morphine and over-the-counter allergy medicine killed 15-year-old Samantha. Less than two weeks earlier, the same combination had killed a high school senior in Licking County, Ohio.
In Los Angeles, more than a dozen students at two high schools got sick after taking the stimulant Ritalin. Police later arrested five teens. They had sold or given away the pills to other students.
While prescription medicines are used legally for certain purposes, they are not safe for everyone. Abuse can kill.
