The 2003-04 Northrop Jazz Season, which kicks off July 1, will focus on big bands, including a 19-piece ensemble led by composer Carla Bley and groups honoring the legacies of Cuban composer-bandleader Chico O'Farrill and bassist-composer Charles Mingus.
The five-concert series, presented at Ted Mann Concert Hall, will also include performances by David Krakauer's Klezmer Madness (Feb. 28) and the Regina Carter Quintet (April 15).
Bley's band, staffed primarily by European musicians, will open the series July 1, playing what is expected to be the entirety of her latest ECM recording, "Looking for America." ...
