Nothing tastes better than sweet corn that has gone from cornstalk to cookpot in minutes. To get that fresh taste, you must grow it in your own backyard.
Traditionally, corn is planted in 4-row blocks to insure maximum pollination. Corn is pollinated by wind, not by insects, so it is necessary for stalks to grow in close proximity. We plant four half-rows of an early variety like Early Sunglow (Park's Seed) which matures in only 62 days--and four half-rows of Silver Queen (Burpee, Willhite) which need 92 days to mature.
