Leah Wood and I are perched in an empty broom-cupboard-like office backstage at designer Julien Macdonald's autumn/winter show. Just outside the door, Macdonald is putting the finishing touches to the clothes draped on his angular models. Music throbs like a migraine against the walls. It is cold and Wood's knees, sticking out from a sparkling dress, are turning blue. She has come to the show not just as the designer's guest but as a favour to him.
She will be DJing at his pre-show drinks party.
