Apr. 19--New Mexico's Office of Cultural Affairs "experienced the best legislative session in its history" with new department status, $5.7 million in dedicated funds and "another $1.8 million in bonding for maintenance and repair," said former Las Cruces Mayor Ruben Smith, now secretary of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs.
He spoke Thursday at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, which will get more than $1 million for its projects and programs.
