Apr. 18--EAST LANSING, Mich.--The Bush administration has tapped Michigan State University President Peter McPherson, a former top official at the U.S. Treasury Department and in U.S. foreign aid programs, to help rebuild Iraq's economy.

McPherson's assignment is expected to be temporary -- one MSU trustee said he could be back in the fall -- and he will not resign from the university.

Details on what McPherson will do were sketchy Thursday, even as news of the assignment spread on and off campus.
