Apr. 18--Monroe County's population grew only 0.2 percent from July 2001 to July 2002, trailing Indiana's population growth rate and causing the county to drop from the 11th most populous county in the state to 12th place.
Still, U.S. Census Bureau figures released today showed that Monroe County had small population gains from 2000 to 2001 and from 2001 to 2002. Though the county had far more births than deaths, the number of people moving in to Monroe County was less than the number moving out, from July 2001 to July 2002.
