IN AN ATTEMPT to counter rising production and distribution costs, industrial gas companies have increased pricing and enacted fuel and transportation surcharges over the last few months. Pricing has been flat to slightly up, and there has been some improvement overall on merchant gas products. However, demand for gases has been fairly lackluster. Although there are a few pockets of growth, demand has generally trended downwards in tandem with the economic slump in manufacturing.
