DOUGLAS, Isle of Man-As the hard insurance market deepens, captives are coming into their own again, Isle of Man managers agree.
While the total number of captives registered in the Isle of Man increased by only one, that figure does not tell the whole story, pointed out Glyn Gilbert, manager of nonlife insurance for the Isle of Man government's Insurance and Pensions Authority.
The Isle of Man has 167 registered captives, writing both direct and reinsurance business, compared with 166 in 2001. Direct captives continue to be the domicile's largest captive segment, accounting for 158 last year. In total, 11 new captives ...
