KENT'S County Championship challenge got off to a mixed start against Leicestershire on day when the bowlers held sway at Canterbury.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Kent looked in good shape as new boy Michael Carberry, signed from Surrey, and England batsmen Robert Key put on 43. But seamer Charlie Dagnall intervened, trapping Key for 25, before Ed Smith was unluckily run out nine runs later.
Carberry completed his half-century off 68 balls on his debut but with Kent's total on 100, he cut straight to point to depart on 55.
