After meeting Mr Lamy, she welcomed his initiative to rein in fishing subsidies (see separate article in this Section). "New Zealand has been something of a pioneer in fisheries management to make sure quotas are sustainable, and we've been campaigning to get rid of subsidies on fisheries", she said, adding that she hoped the proposal would eventually result in sustainably-managed New Zealand fisheries increasing in profitability.
