When Wild General Manager Doug Risebrough hired his former Montreal Canadiens teammate, Jacques Lemaire, to coach the team, Risebrough was confident he was hiring the best man for the job.
But even Risebrough didn't expect Lemaire to turn out to be a miracle man, leading the Wild into the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs in its third year of existence.
Before the Wild's first-round playoff series with the Colorado Avalanche started, somebody asked Lemaire if his edge in coaching experience over Colorado first-year coach Tony Granato would make a difference.
"The coaches don't play," Lemaire said.
