A lack of Hong Kong buyers has seen Australian thoroughbred yearling horse sales perform poorly. The three-day Willian Inglis & Son sale had a clearance rate of only 77% and raised $A55m, down 12% on the 2002 sale. The MD of William Inglis, Reg Inglis, put the poor result down to the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
