The late Puerto Rican master percussionist/bandleader Tito Puente was the first musical mentor of a young Larry Harlow. In his teen years, Harlow used to sneak into the popular Palladium Ballroom in New York City to watch his idol, Tito Puente, on timbal, lead his amazing Latin music orchestra. By the mid-'60s, Harlow had formed his first orchestra and released his debut album Heavy Smokin'(1955, Fania Records). With 36 albums under his belt, and production credits for over 200 artists, pianist/bandleader/producer and Latin music legend Larry Harlow continues to be a force to be reckoned with in Latin music.
