The danza is Puerto Rico's national dance. One of them, La Borinqueña, is the island's national anthem and nothing arouses a Puerto Rican's patriotic fervor more than the playing of a danza.
However, it must be clearly identified as a Puerto Rican danza, because there are other varieties. The ancestry of the Puerto Rican danza can be traced back to the "danza caballeresca" from Extremadura, Spain.
