Now that the "beauty contest" has been won by a plethora of very dark-green and fine-bladed turfgrass varieties, the next great improvements in varieties in the coming years are going to materialize in the form of disease, drought, salt and even Roundup (glyphosate) resistance. Unless you've been asleep the last five years, it is clear that we must focus our attention on reduced-maintenance grasses as population growth, water shortages and environmental issues drive the landscape business deeper into this millennium.
