IRAKLION, Crete, Greece _ Somewhere deep in this island's mountains is the cave where Zeus was raised.
As you might recall from Greek mythology, Zeus was the supreme god, the one with the unnerving ability to throw thunderbolts.
He was born into what today might be called a dysfunctional family. His father wanted him dead.
But his mother, who knew a trick or two, hid her baby boy to be raised in a cave on a shoulder of Crete's highest mountain, Mt. Psiloritis.
Zeus' dad never did find that cave. But I wanted to.
The cave is not hidden, but few Cretans visit because it is at the end of a slalom ...
