Washington, D.C. -- Saying that the United States "cannot afford to be timid," Sen. Norm Coleman, R-Minn., on Monday announced plans to begin a congressional investigation into whether states are prepared to deal with the potential spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
It will be the first investigation to be led by Coleman, the new chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
Among other things, Coleman said he wants to know whether state attorneys general have the ability to enforce quarantines and what airport directors and state health directors are doing to combat the ...
