Easter is never complete without chocolate eggs, fluffy chicks and bunnies - but what does it mean?
Some believe the name comes from Eostre, an ancient Anglo-Saxon goddess in whose honour the pagans held an annual spring festival. Coloured eggs and rabbits became attached to it, as symbols of new life.
Eggs were painted in bright colours to represent the sunlight of spring and used in egg-rolling contests, while the rabbit was a symbol of fertility.
