The state Senate's unanimous override Tuesday of Gov. Pataki's veto, changing the school voting date to June 3, has local school officials scrambling to adjust.
"It's a joke, because of the irresponsibility at the state level to fulfill their constitutional obligation to pass a budget by April 1," said Nelson Bauersfeld, superintendent of the Morrisville-Eaton school district. "Now, we vote on June 3. What if our budget is defeated? We have only 27 days to decide on a new budget, advertise it, put it up for the voters and vote on it, because our new fiscal year begins July 1. I'm very, very disappointed."
