FONTANA - Kurt Busch, left outside the winner's circle in 2002 on a pit-stop call, took the inside route in winning Sunday's NASCAR Winston Cup Auto Club 500 at California Speedway.

In the best finish of the seven Winston Cup races at the Fontana track, Busch went low to pass Rusty Wallace in turn 3 of lap 239 and raced to his second victory of the season. The margin of victory - 2.294 seconds - was rather deceptive as a crash involving 2002 winner Jimmie Johnson spread the field.

Busch lost last year's race to Johnson when he took two tires on a late pit stop and Johnson opted for gas only.
