May 1--WASHINGTON--Officials at political watchdog groups do not expect the Federal Election Commission to prohibit host committees from using "soft money" to pay for party conventions such as the Democratic event scheduled to take place in Boston next year.
The FEC, which interprets and enforces the nation's election laws, is set to announce rules for "soft money" use in political conventions on June 19. A public hearing on the subject is scheduled for May 19.
