PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local CARBONES DEL CERREJON currently operates the Cerrejon Zona Norte coal mine on the country's La Guajira peninsula. The mine's output is presently estimated at 17.3 million tons per year (t/y). And, the company is now gearing-up to undertake an expansion program that is aimed at adding another 11.7 million t/y in production capacity.
The cost to complete the planned upgrade project has been pegged at $130,000,000. Of this amount, about $70,000,000 will go towards the acquisition of mining equipment. And, the balance of the funds will be used for: - Infrastructure construction such as bridges; - Telecommunications; - The ...
