May 2--State budget cuts have killed the veterinary extension program at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech.
Professors and researchers at the college will no longer devote part of their time to educating Virginia farmers, horse owners and others on animal health issues except through fee-for-service veterinary care.
Virginia Tech's overall budget for the 2003 fiscal year was cut $62 million.
