BALTIMORE _ There was plenty of relief in the feel-good mood that accompanied the Kansas City Royals as they headed home Sunday night after a 4-0 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.
They were done, finally, with a three-city excursion that began with the SARS threat in Toronto and included three draining losses in Boston.
They had just beaten the Orioles for the second time in three days at Camden Yards, thereby winning the three-game series and ensuring their lead atop the American League Central would be the same or better as when the road trip began.
