May 4--The University of South Carolina and its athletics department have provided some behind-the-scenes impetus to the proposed move of the State Farmers Market.
USC has plans to build an athletics complex on the current 54-acre farmers market site. That would clear the way for the school's planned research park on the south side of its Columbia campus, now the site of several athletics fields.
USC officials have been eyeing the farmers market land for more than five years, much to the chagrin of some retailers there who say they don't want to leave the site ...
