CIENA(R) Corporation (NASDAQ:CIEN) today announced that on May 1, 2003, the Federal Trade Commission granted early termination of the antitrust waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act for CIENA's proposed acquisition of WaveSmith Networks, Inc.
This transaction remains subject to various conditions and approval by other appropriate government agencies and the stockholders of WaveSmith. CIENA continues to expect that this transaction will close during the third fiscal quarter of 2003.
