May 2--PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.--A Charlotte County code enforcement officer doing a sweep along U.S. 41 Thursday morning used her intuition and a little detective work to shut down an interior renovation project at the Beall's Outlet department store at Promenades Mall in Port Charlotte.
"That doesn't look very good," said Gloria Walberg, a county code officer, of a pile of debris at the rear of the building. "I have a hunch they don't have a demolition permit."
Walberg stopped her vehicle and went inside to follow her instincts as she watched several laborers ...
