IN ALL the furore about the English Cricket Board's decision to let Mugabe's ambassadors from Zimbabwe play this week, there is one glaring question: why don't the sponsors foot the bill? Despite his worthless protestations that sports administrators should not make moral judgments, ECB boss Tim Lamb makes the quite good point that English cricket cannot afford to lose pound sterling10 million. However, sponsors NatWest could certainly afford to write off a few million quid, particularly if the Chancellor allowed them to account for it as a charitable donation.
